Solid wood planks are milled from one piece of wood. This is the main difference between them and all types of engineered flooring.
Our solid wood planks are milled with a tongue and groove on all four sides making installation quick and easy, whilst slightly bevelled edges on all four sides rule out variations in board height, often referred to as over-wood and guarantees an even surface.
An exact fitting of the planks is achieved by slightly bevelled and backcut tongues and grooves. Stress grooves on the bottom face of the planks help prevent them from cupping or buckling.
We handpick the wood for select grade floors to make sure that it has as much uniformity of colour and grain as possible. Any knots in the wood will be very small and we do everything that we can to select the boards that are straight grained and free of sap – creating a worktop with very little variation between the boards and a consistent and even colour finish.
No two trees are the same and our nature grade floors reflect this. The wood can contain small knots, some of which may have been filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. Some of these knots may have some of the natural variation of colour and grain that occurs within that particular wood.
Our rustic grade floors are visually striking and contain natural colour variations between the boards. The wood will contain large knots, most of which may have been filled with a suitably coloured wood filler. You will find that there are more variations in the grain patterns with this option.
We offer over 50 different bespoke finishes which can be applied to any of our oak floors. If you still cant find a choose finish to suit you - why not ask us to blend your own unique colour.
